granny blanket

I have recently started using a bullet journal. It has revolutionised my life.

I don’t do new years resolutions but I have decided 2015 is the Year Of Doing Stuff. At the beginning of January I sat down with my lovely journal and set some targets and goals for the year. Some of them are house/DIY related (new bathroom is a priority) some are fitness related (I’m running a half marathon in October) and some are craft related.

In no particular order my crafty based goals for this year are:

  • learn to make a granny square
  • make at least one thing a month
  • finish my nephew’s blanket

In January 2014 my siblings and I spent a weekend sorting through some of my mum’s stuff. She was a prolific knitter and we found enough wool to start our own shop. We also found a few unfinished projects, but that’s a whole other post.

As I am the only one who knits I came home with the wool. It has spent the last year sitting in a corner of my bedroom. Mostly because I have come to the conclusion that I don’t have the attention span and/or patience for knitting. I like to get things made in a short space of time, which is why I like sewing.

I’ve often regretted the fact that I can’t crochet, as it seems so much more portable than knitting.

This week I decided to tackle one of my craft goals and learn to make a granny square. What better use for my mum’s (the M’s granny) than to make a granny blanket? I’d kind of taught myself via youtube 18 months ago, but I haven’t picked up a crochet hook since. Once I’d done one there was no stopping me.

But then I worked out that I wouldn’t have enough yarn in my chosen colours to make enough squares for a blanket.

And then I happened across a pattern for a granny blanket and that was that.

I am only a few rows in but I am loving it.

I’m not sure I’ll get this finished in time for it to be my one thing for this month, but you never know. Watch this space…
